Deception II Edinburgh screen shot edited.jpg

A street corner from Edinburgh is projected onto melting ice at Deception Island, Antarctica, as deep-time and human time collide through this video work. This ice, laid down over thousands of years; becomes the platform where technology merges the visible and invisible. Absorbing the images the ice transmutes the narrative and blurs the line between our worlds.

The sound of human history in the guise of bagpipes, a timeless sound that echoes along our human history, sits at the core of this work. As the people move about their day and its repetition continues, the sounds of crying birds warped to mask the drip, the dying, the ultimate sacrifice, their lives for our way of life.
